Uitzicht op Kasteel Nieuw-Herlaer

The late fourteenth-century castle was originally located behind the still existing stair tower that was built in the fifteenth century. In front of the tower was a square, surrounded by a wall with embrasures. There was also a fortified gatehouse with a drawbridge here. The whole was surrounded by moats.

Nieuw-Herlaer was built on the model of Oud-Herlaer and is first mentioned as "Nijeherlaer" in 1381. The castle has been used as a seminary, institute for the deaf, monastery, of several sister congregations and observation clinic.
