The late fourteenth-century castle was originally located behind the still existing stair tower that was built in the fifteenth century. In front of the tower was a square, surrounded by a wall with embrasures. There was also a fortified gatehouse with a drawbridge here. The whole was surrounded by moats.

Nieuw-Herlaar (also: Nieuw-Herlaer) is a castle in Sint-Michielsgestel, in the Dutch province of Noord-Brabant. It was built after that of Oud-Herlaar, of which it was a fief. It was first mentioned on November 17, 1381 as Nijeherlaer.

Nieuw-Herlaar is located on the north bank of the Dommel, a hundred meters from the hamlet of Halder, to which it is connected by a bridge over the Dommel. Further from the river and four hundred meters north of the castle is hunting lodge Haanwijk.
