The Löörmöös, located in the Löörwald forest, is one of the few raised bogs near Bern. Specifically, there are only five raised bogs left in the Bernese Mittelland: the Chlepfibeerimoos (near Burgäschisee, placed under protection in 1944), Meienmoos (near Burgdorf, 1964), Heidmoos (Hindelbank, 1974), Löörmoos (Meikirch / Wohlen, 1983) and the Büsselimoos (Kirchlindach, 1983). All of these raised bogs were therefore placed under nature protection before the Rothenthurm Initiative was adopted (1987).

They originated in this area around 12,000 years ago. After the glaciers retreated, a landscape remained like that in the high mountains or Scandinavia: without vegetation with ponds and ponds.
