Due to construction work on the north side of the bridge, the cycle path is currently one-way for both directions on the south side. In some places it is already narrow due to pillars and now unnecessary warning beacons when you only have to share the path with pedestrians in one direction. It is absolutely fascinating how German bureaucracy can delay construction like this. The bridge has not been free of construction work in over five years. In the Netherlands, with sufficient resources, it would be completed quickly and efficiently. The loss of time and the resulting economic damage, alongside the ecological damage caused by the constant traffic jams, should really be motivation enough. But there are reasons why the Dutch are happier people, and this could be one of them: decent, adequate infrastructure.
