The Emmerich bridge over the Rhine, at 803 m, is the longest suspension bridge in Germany and, at 500 m, has the largest span of a bridge in Germany. It was built by Hein, Lehmann and Co. (Dusseldorf), then belonging to the Stumm Group. The design of the bridge came from the civil engineer Hellmut Homberg, the architectural professor Heinrich Bartmann [4] participated in the design. The building spans the Rhine between Kleve and Emmerich at a height of about 30 m at kilometer 853.2. It is the northernmost German Rhine bridge. The overpass has two lanes and two sidewalks and is part of the federal highway 220. The Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Franz Meyers, laid the foundation stone on 2 May 1962. On September 3, 1965, the Emmerich bridge was opened.(Https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rheinbr%C3%BCcke_Emmerich)
