The malt house is a very good example of the problem-free connection between the past and the present. Erected on the remains of the castle of the Counts of Everstein (around 1100) from 1727-1730, it is the oldest building of its kind still in existence in this country. The imposing barrel and cross vaults and the gallery extending over two floors are worth seeing. Today the Malzhaus is the socio-cultural center of the city with challenging concerts, cabaret, cinema and exhibitions. The Malzhaus became known beyond national borders through the Folk Autumn, a series of concerts with selected artists of this genre and the award of the "Iron Eversteiner", the only European folk music award in Germany.
