The Oderteich was built between 1715 and 1722. Together with the Rehberger Graben, it once supplied the Sankt Andreasberg mines with water, so that even when it was dry there was always enough water available for the operation of the so-called "arts". Today, the Oderteich is part of the Upper Harz Water Management UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its water is still used to generate electricity for Sankt Andreasberg. In addition to the circular hiking trail, there is also the opportunity to swim in the designated areas on the east and west banks.
Over time, a valuable flora and fauna has settled on the banks of the Oderteich. It is an important habitat for birds such as the gray wagtail, and the common sandpiper can sometimes be found here. Out of respect for nature, please stay on the marked paths.
