The Collegiate Church of Sainte-Begge, in the heart of the city of Andenne, was built in the neoclassical style (18th century) and dedicated to Saint Begga, the founder of the monastery, which included the seven churches that were destroyed to enable the abbey to be built .

At the advice of Pope Serge I, Begga 692 built a monastery with seven churches in one place, which God had given her thanks to signs. The number of churches followed the sign God directed to Begga, namely a hen and seven chicks and a sow and seven piglets.

In the middle of the 18th century, the churches, which were in a desolate condition, were demolished with the permission of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. Their stones were then reused to build the new collegial, neoclassical style. The work was then directed by the famous architect Laurent-Benoét Dewez, the first architect of the Austrian governor of the Netherlands. The construction period was from 1770 to 1775.
