The Oberwald is part of a forest area that historically belonged to the Engelthal monastery and contributed to its livelihood. Near the highlight is a rest hut with a wide panoramic view across to Altenstadt and down to Eichen. The well-marked Bonifatius route runs through the Oberwald, leading from oaks up into the monastery forest and over to the Engelthal monastery. The final destination of the Boniface Route is Fulda Cathedral.
