Best Hikes to Schachtbaum (200-Year-Old Hornbeam)

Tips

  • The hornbeam has a characteristic crown shape, it was probably cut back earlier as a pollard tree. The trunk is completely hollow and open on the back because lightning struck at least once. It is one of the oldest hornbeams in the Harz Mountains.
