The Saint-Hubert church is located in the upper part of the village, called "le mont", and was built in 1900 on the site of a very old church whose origins date back to the thirteenth century. Its sights include the tombstone of Jean d'Argenteau, Count of Esneux in the seventeenth century, two confessionals of Louis XIV, a baptismal font from the fourteenth century, a Regency choir bench and a statue of Saint Hubert in painted wood from the Del Cour school.

Saint Hubert, to whom this church is dedicated, lived from 655 to 727 and is a very popular saint, best known as the patron saint of hunters. A stag with a glowing cross between the antlers is said to have appeared to him, which is often shown in Hubertus portraits. This legend was originally attributed to Saint Eustace and over time 'migrated' to Hubertus. His memorial day in the calendar of saints is November 3rd.

In the Middle Ages until the French Revolution in 1789, Esneux was a feudal lordship of the Duke of Limburg (and not the Prince Duchy of Liège, as one might think). The base area was then much larger than today's municipality.

In 1794 the French troops drove the Austrians out of the Dutch territory; a fight took place in Hamay, very near the village of Fontin. Under French rule, Esneux became a separate parish and retained most of the land.

Up until the beginning of the 19th century Esneux was a very poor village, the income came mainly from the barley, rye and oat harvests, as the soil was too poor to grow wheat. The cattle, rather seldom it seems, grazed on the parish grounds. The inhabitants also earned a little from fishing, mining in the stone pits, cutting wood and from the iron mine. The iron was used in the Liège industry.

Life in the village changed abruptly with the connection to the railway line in 1865.

From that moment on, Esneux became a well known vacation spot. Many personalities, artists and writers spent the summer in Esneux, attracted mainly by the charm of nature. Let's name a few names: Camille Lemonnier, Maurice des Ombiaux, Edmond Picard, Oscar Bechmans, Léon Souguenet.

Various associations provided entertainment: concerts, water games, flower parades, etc. The first tree festival took place in 1905.

The "golden years" for tourism in Esneux was the period before the First World War.

After Robert DALEM, history professor from Esneux.
