The Luppe is a right tributary of the Saale.
Until the construction of the Neue Luppe in the 1930s, it was the largest tributary of the Weißen Elster in its anastomosing lower course (often referred to as the inland delta) and branched off from it in the Leipzig water junction. Together they regularly flooded the Elster-Luppe-Aue, a large floodplain forest area between Leipzig and Halle.(Source: Wikipedia)
