The 113 km long standard-gauge branch line starts at Beeskow station through the northern Spreewald. Here it crosses the main line Berlin-Cottbus in the district town of Lübben and reaches the Luckau-Uckro train station via Luckau, where it reaches the main line Berlin-Dresden. The route continues through the Fläming range to Herzberg (Elster), crosses the Schwarze Elster and ends in Falkenberg. Railway traffic began on the Luckau-Uckro section on December 20, 1897. On March 3, 1898 it was extended to Lübben and on March 15, 1898 to Falkenberg. With the last section of Lübben-Beeskow, the entire railway line was completed on November 24, 1901. The trains traveled through Lower Lusatia for almost a hundred years. At the turn of 1993/94, there were first restrictions in freight traffic. In 1995 the passenger traffic between Luckau and Uckro ended on February 28th, on May 27th between Uckro and Herzberg (Elster) Stadt as well as Beeskow and Lübben Süd. On June 1, 1996 the connection between Lübben and Luckau was abandoned and on April 18, 1998 the last section from Herzberg (Elster) Stadt to Falkenberg (Elster). Despite the St. Andrew's Cross, you don't have to wait here, the crossing is very extended, it's best to get out of the saddle and use your legs to bounce 😉.
