Ulrich Rückriem was initially a stonemason, today his technique of cutting and splitting the stone along straight lines is the hallmark of Rückriems Minimal Art. These four colossal blocks, carved from Austrian granite rocks, together weigh 48 tons and adorn the end of the Graaf Léon Lippensdreef. The visible holes and fault lines are the traces of the working process. The proportions follow mathematical principles and despite their size they harmonize effortlessly with the location. A puzzle of four large pieces that can be reduced to one whole.
