In the summer of 2003, the new coking plant at Schwelgernhafen went into operation and the rising steam of coke quenching has since become a favorite motif for amateur and professional photographers.

The coking plant Schwelgern in Duisburg is one of the most modern and largest coking plants in the world.
The owner and owner is Carbonaria Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH & Co., in which Commerz Real Asset Management GmbH and Hannover Leasing GmbH & Co. KG hold shares. The operation takes place under the operating management company KBS Kokereibetriebsgesellschaft Schwelgern GmbH, which belongs to ThyssenKrupp and employs 309 employees of the former coking plant August Thyssen (Works Director Klaus Hofherr). The main customer of the coke produced here is the neighboring ThyssenKrupp Stahlwerk Schwelgern.

If you sit down on one of the many park benches along the way, you can really feel the earth shaking on weekdays, that's heavy industry! At the same time one looks out over the Rhine and sometimes even hears the announcements in the plant such as "All employees please come to the canteen immediately!". So here you really get into industrial contact.
