The first Viennese water pipeline route was built between 1870 and 1873. It crosses the 23rd district between Ketzergasse and Breitenfurter Strasse and ends in the Rosenhügel water reservoir (near the intersection of Atzgersdorfer Strasse and Rosenhügelstrasse). The round arches of the Liesing aqueducts are supported by 43 supporting pillars.

The term aqueduct was originally used to refer to the entire aqueduct. However, he then naturalized himself for bridges that were built according to the ancient Roman model. These solve the problem of overcoming valleys that run across the direction of the pipeline. From the point of view of statics, one speaks of vault structures that are composed of a number of arched fields depending on the width of the valley. The aim was always to have semicircular vaults arranged on central pillars. Flat single-span arches are found in ravine-like valleys, while two-span bridges are found in flat river valleys.

One of the larger specimens - there are several aqueducts in this area

The Vienna Water Aqueduct is a historic structure that supplies the city of Vienna with drinking water from the Alps. The aqueduct was built between 1870 and 1910 and is one of the largest engineering projects in Austrian history. The aqueduct consists of two main pipes, each over 100 kilometers long and delivering up to 400 liters of water per second. The aqueduct overcomes several elevation differences and river valleys with the help of bridges, tunnels, gates and valves. The aqueduct is also an architectural masterpiece that blends harmoniously into the landscape. The aqueduct is an important part of Vienna's water supply, which is among the best in the world.

I've always wanted to stop by. On foot? By car? No, always too lazy, but no problem with the bike.
                A really great building!
