The wooden ant chapel was built in 1854 and goes back to a legend:
The Sameibauer wanted to fetch brushwood with his boys in the forest. At lunchtime the farmer lay down next to an anthill and dreamed that there was a small image of the Virgin Mary of the Mother of God from the Holy Mountain in Bohemia in the anthill.
When he woke up, he rummaged around in the anthill and actually found the picture. He showed it to his boys and it turned out that one of the boys had the same strange dream.
The picture was kept in awe at home. After a short time, however, the image was gone. Worried, the farmer looked for the picture at the place where it was found, and that's right, the picture was hanging on a tree next to the anthill.
He took it home again, but the next day he found it again in the same place, hanging on the tree. He and his boys built a wooden chapel at this point and put the picture in the center. Since then, the ant chapel has been a place of pilgrimage and pilgrimage. (Source: bayerischer-wald.de)
