The Evangelical Lutheran parish church of St. Mary is one of the five inner city churches in Lemgo. Since 1306 it was the monastery church of Dominikanerinnen. Even today, there is the Lippe St. Mary's Lady in Lemgo, which is under the supervision of the Landesverband Lippe. The St. Marien Abbey was united in 1971 by the Land Law with the Cappel Abbey near Lippstadt.
