The Neolithic pile dwelling settlement on Lobsigesee is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Already around 1900 a settlement from the Neolithic period was suspected at the Lobsigesee in Seedorf. The lake was lowered in 1945 to gain arable land, later drainage followed, which led to extensive draining of the moor. Since the found layers are no longer protected in permanently moist layers, their exposure is at risk.

Since spring 2022, the area around Lake Lobsigen has been grazed by water buffalo. Water buffalo are calm, inquisitive animals and friendly towards humans. The water buffalo originally came from Asia, where they are still used for plowing rice fields and as beasts of burden. In Switzerland, buffalo are mainly kept for meat and milk production (including buffalo mozzarella).
