In the years 1954 - 1958, the Fatima chapel "Maria Frieden" was built in Bernbach municipal forest. It goes back to a promise given by the Bernbacher Alfons Gutermann in the Second World War. She is lovingly called "the Grotto" by the Bernbachers. It invites walkers to stay, pause, rest, and to pray and to worship the Virgin Mary. In the 1960s, a Way of the Cross was built through the forest, but unfortunately soon fell victim to vandalism.
