In the Trelleborg Viking Museum is a beautiful replica of a Viking longhouse. Admission to the outside area of the museum is free.

Trelleborg, a Viking castle that was proven to have been built around 981, is located west of Slagelse on the Danish main island of Zealand and had space for around 1,300 people. It was originally built on a headland that protruded into an inaccessible swamp area. There was a navigable connection to the Great Belt via an inland lake that is now silted up. Trelleborg, like the three other Viking castles Aggersborg, Fyrkat and Nonnebakken, was built by Sven Gabelbart. The castle was excavated from 1934 to 1942. Since 2023, Trelleborg has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Viking Age Ring Castles site.

        A viking museum to experience.
Admission is free - except for the Viking Festival in July.
As with most museums in Denmark that we have visited, the opening times are relatively short, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. / 5 p.m.

As so often in Denmark, very family-friendly: toilet and outdoor area free, museum costs something. A great area to let the children play "Vikings"! Then the drinking bottles are filled and on we go.
