One of the longest bridges in the world is located between the two Danish islands of Funen and Zealand. The Storebæltsbroen not only makes travel to Copenhagen easier, but is also a sight in itself.

The Storebæltsbroen was opened in 1998. It connects the west of Denmark with Zealand, the country's most populous island, on which the capital is also located. The bridge itself is part of the Storebæltsforbindelsen (Great Belt Connection) and consists of two smaller partial bridges.

The western bridge runs from Funen to the artificially created island of Sprogø. This is a flat prestressed concrete bridge with a length of 6611 m. The eastern section of the bridge connects Sprogø with Zealand. The middle section of the 6790 m long eastern bridge consists of a suspension bridge.

With a length of 2,694 m, it is the longest suspension bridge in Europe and the third longest in the world.

The western bridge functions as a road and railway bridge. At Sprogø, the tracks branch off and continue to the island of Zealand via a separate railway tunnel, so that the eastern bridge is only accessible to road traffic.

With a height of 18 m, the western part is significantly lower than the eastern part, which now rises 65 m above sea level.
