The Hertha Altar is the first extraordinary monument in the landscape park of Gut Windhausen when you enter from the street.

Right next to the crossroads in the forest there is an uncut sandstone block, on the top of which there is a depression that looks as if it were an altar on which animals were sacrificed and the depression was used to drain the blood . Hertha is said to have been a Germanic earth or mother goddess who is also called Nerthus in some contexts and is equated by some authors with Frigga. It always gives the fertility of the earth, of the cattle and of the people, the abundance of the harvest, the happiness of the family and the marriage.
