The legend tells from the time of the 30 Years War (1618-1648) that three Swedish horsemen, coming from the Altmühltal, set out over the northern slope to plunder the Jura village of Buchenhüll. They must have lost their way in the large woods, because they probably couldn't find their way back to their units. When the enemy Swedish warriors had long since withdrawn, three bodies were found in the forest and buried at the site. On stormy nights, the three white molds of the Swedes are said to have been seen near the burial site. Since then, this part of the forest has been called Schimmelleite.
