"Old postal route" ... on historical traces through the district
The "Alte Postweg" is based on its importance for postal traffic in the 18th century when the Electors of Hanover were also kings of England in personal union and relocated their residence to London. Their official mail was brought to Cuxhaven by riders and mail coaches and shipped from there to England. The old postal route was the central axis of the empire at that time.

Stoteler Strasse (sign 16 of the Old Post Route):
The village of Stotel was first mentioned in 1105 in a document by the Archbishop of Bremen under the name Statle. In later documents the names Stotlo, Stotle and Stotele are also found for the place. Stoteler Straße itself is one of the oldest developed streets in the area. At that time it was an important link and later became also used by Napoleon as an army and post road.
