Count Franz Erwein von Schönborn had the giant castle made accessible by means of paths and stairs. This was done on the occasion of a visit by the Bavarian King Ludwig I, who visited the cave at the beginning of the 19th century. A couplet by the king carved into the rock at the lookout point above the cave commemorates this visit: "Following the wind, the clouds come to the rock and then retreat, but the rock stands unchanging in time."
