Hiking Highlight
Great view. From the summit cross a short distance down into the forest towards the Resspass there is a nice fireplace.
The Fähnerenspitz is a popular mountain in every season because it is harmless and yet exudes a magical attraction from a mountain. And this even in bad weather, no matter how stormy it is and you think that you are the only crazy person who goes out in that weather ... but no ... on the Fähnerenspitz you meet other people in any weather "Crazy" on 😉
In winter, the Fähnerenspitz is a beautiful destination for snowshoe hikes and you can even find touring skis up here.
The area around the Fähnerenspitz is also very nice and sunny in the winter months (especially from Brülisau), if you start the ascent from Eggerestand, you first walk in the shade, but this path is also very beautiful and recommended.

The Fähnerenspitz (1505m asl) shows a beautiful panorama far beyond the region. Somehow we were surprised that such a broad view was possible, we would not have suspected that before.

The Fänerenspitz (also Fähnern) is the northernmost Swiss pre-Alps summit, which towers over 1500 meters. It is located in the municipality of Rüte between Eggerstanden and Brülisau in the canton of Appenzell Inner Rhodes.
Locally the Fänerenspitz is addressed as d'Fänere (the Fäneren).
The Fänerenspitz is easy to reach on foot and is ideal for snowshoe tours and in winter even for a ski tour, when there are dangerous snow conditions in the mountains.

Highly recommended as a winter mountain, either with snowshoes, but also easy to do with spikes.

In fine weather, a wonderful panoramic view over Appenzeller Land, Rhine Valley and Lake Constance in the background. Also ideal in winter with snowshoes.

Most hikers are oriented towards Hoher Kasten, so it is less crowded although it is at least as nice!

What else can I say ... (almost) everything that was written above is true. Highly recommended!
The big advantage of the Fähnernenspitz is that it is almost always relatively easy to reach, even in winter with the appropriate equipment. In addition, it is very sunny, so the snow always goes away first.
An official snowshoe trail is signposted in winter.
But:
The all-round view is a little overrated, there is "only" an angle of approx. 200 ° west-north-east open to a good view, towards the south the forest unfortunately covers almost everything. There are more extensive all-round vantage points in the area (e.g. the Kamor very close by).

Nice barbecue area (wood mostly available) a little below the Fähnerenspitz.

The most beautiful view of the Alpstein, the Rhine Valley and Appenzellerland

The Fähnerenspitz is accessible all year round with snowshoes in winter when there is a lot of snow, very nice all-round view

Worthwhile, good visibility and yet not too long on the road.
