In 1988, the plant was listed as an industrial monument under monument protection. The final decommissioning and backfilling of the shafts took place in 1995. Since 1997, the machine hall of the colliery Zweckel is a site of the Foundation Industrial Heritage and History Culture and a venue for art and culture in the city of Gladbeck, including for the Ruhrtriennale.
