When you think of the Ruhr area, you always think of black, large and smoking industrial backdrops.
But the Ruhr area is far greener than many people think of it. This also applies to Gladbeck.
Around 42 percent of Gladbeck's urban area is either parkland or is used for forestry and agriculture.
One of the most beautiful parks is the Nordpark. Located on Konrad-Adenauer-Alle, Nordpark is in the center of the city.
The North Park is approximately 13 hectares in size. It includes a large pond, a playground and a small football field, as well as a roller skating rink.
There is a jetty on the pond from which craft fans can launch their model boats. Nowadays, the roller skating rink is mainly used by skaters.
There is an allotment garden association connected to the Nordpark.
For 800,000 euros, the city of Gladbeck expanded the Nordpark into an exercise center as part of the integrated action concept for a family-friendly city center.
The highlight is the new beach volleyball and beach soccer facility on the artificial turf pitch of the Heisenberg-Gymnaisum. In the park itself there is now a fitness area, the playground has been renovated and expanded, new sunbathing areas and benches invite you to linger.

The north park was created in 1934/1935 as part of emergency work. With its pond, the Nordpark is an important source of fresh air for the urban climate and an attractive leisure location.
