The Straussee is an ice-age channel lake, which is located near the city named after him Strausberg in the Brandenburg district of Märkisch-Oderland. It is located around 30 km northeast of Berlin in the forest and lake-rich landscape of eastern Barnim.The lake extends from northeast to southwest of about 3.8 km and is up to 340 m wide. Approximately in the middle of the lake it is crossed by the electrically operated Ostrich ferry. In addition to local residents, the lake is mainly used by the people of nearby Berlin for recreational purposes. There is a public swimming pool and several free bathing entrances.
