Llangollen Bridge is one of the Seven Wonders of Wales and was built by Bishop John Trevor c. 1345. It allowed the town to develop on both sides of the river. The bridge was widened in the 16th and 20th centuries,
The river Dee rises in Snowdonia and flows through Bala Lake to Chester and out into Liverpool Bay.
Until the 1950s coracle fishing was carried out on the river, especially in the Llangollen area.
In recent years salmon stocks have improved and otters have returned to the river.
Famous for its white water, the river has hosted many national and international canoeing competitions.

Llangollen is a stunning little town and the river bridge is a central point with sightseers watching paddlers negotiating this famous stretch of the river Dee. Lots of eating and drinking houses, shops and sights to see including the Llangollen Canal and nearby Pontcystllte Aqueduct which is a UNESCO WHS. Great place!

It's a fab walk, great views and not as steep as some of our hill walks, apart from the Dinas Bran hill.
