In the 1930s, there was a snow jump every ten meters in Schmiedefeld on the Gablonzer Bach, where children could practice their enthusiasm. Later, real ski jumps were built in Gersgrund, on the Stänglich and on the I-Line.

After the Second World War, many national and international competitions were held on the Vessertalschanze (known as the "Walter Ulbricht ski jump" in GDR times). Today, however, there is hardly any ski jumping there anymore.
