A strange rock formation is referred to as the "Teufeltisch" (901 m), around which the following saga is based:The devil just came over Fahrnbach. Then he was very hungry. Because he didn't have a table with him, which is understandable, he quickly built one out of boulders. A meal was already enchanted when the Glashüttenglöcklein started ringing at twelve o'clock from Unterbreitenau. The devil couldn't stand it and flew away through the air.
You can still see the stone table with the traces left by the devil.
The "Teufeltisch" can be reached via hiking trail No. 3. From there you have a wonderful view of the Weißenstein castle ruins and the district town of Regen. The Teufeltisch (901 m) is a legendary rock formation near Bischofsmais in the central Bavarian Forest, which today serves as a heavily frequented hiking destination. It forms its own small ridge with considerable rocks along the ridge height.A popular hiking trail, which however requires surefootedness, leads from Bischofsmais to the Teufeltisch, then along the rocky ridge with beautiful views again and again to a fork in the road, where it continues down to Habischried or Tiefenried. This hike can be combined well with the neighboring Geißkopf. There are several routes to the actual Devil's Table. The normal route leads upwards in difficulty level II +. On the south side there are two more routes of difficulty IV and IV +

Whenever we're on the road in deep Lower Bavaria, we try to find time for at least a short tour, even if the weather isn't too great.
Because the Woid has its charms in every season. Today we went to Bischofsmais, where a decent ski area is available on the Geißkopf.
Very close by there is a nice short tour to the Teufelstisch, a rock formation made up of layers of granite slabs. But not only this formation is interesting, no, the whole summit ridge offers beautiful rocks again and again. With a few exceptions, the views are rather meager, but on days like these that doesn't particularly bother us.
From the parking lot we follow the forest road into the forest. Soon we come to a junction. We'll come back later from the right, now we turn left and follow the road until a signpost points to the devil's table on the right. In a beautiful incline, a forest path leads directly up to the back. At the top, the path swings to the left.
Right here it is worthwhile to hike briefly to the right to a rock slab, as from here you have a beautiful view of Regen and the rear woid. Then it goes north on the rocky ridge, again and again you can scramble on rocks and from time to time gaps in the wood offer views. The highlight is the devil's table, but even if you go further, there are similarly beautiful structures.
