A visit here is quite depressing. According to the information board, the cemetery was designed in 2003 as a memorial for the victims of Nazi »euthanasia«. Mentally ill and disabled people were forcibly sterilized in Weilmünster and systematically undersupplied by deprivation of food and care. They died as a result of overdosed medication or in the gas chamber after being "transferred" to the Hadamar murder facility near Limburg.
Between 1937 and 1945, accommodation in the Weilmünster state hospital resulted in the deaths of over 6,000 people, including all Jewish patients. See weilmuenster.de
