The scallop shell marks a waypoint on the Camino de Santiago. At this point it belongs to the Via Baltica, the Baltic-Westphalian Way of St. James, which is part of the North German pilgrimage network. The Via Baltica later also has Santiago de Compostela as its destination. Here you can find an overview of all the Way of St. James in Europe: jakobswege-europa.de/wege.
