For many, the most beautiful section of Hamburg's Elbe beach is in the Rissen district: Wittenbergener Strand is the last natural beach in the Hanseatic city and offers a picturesque panorama with the red and white striped Wittenbergen lighthouse. From the natural beach you are also rewarded with a view of the inland island of Neßsand, where the large container ships pass. The island was created by sand filling in the 1940s and is now a nature reserve. By the way, the tides of the North Sea, into which the Elbe flows, also affect the river itself: depending on the low or high tide, the beach sections become either narrower or wider.hamburg.de/gehenswuerdigkeiten-am-wasser/9763364/elbstrand-hamburg
