Mountain Biking Highlight
The reservoir holds a good 18 million cubic meters of water and is well embedded in the mountains of the Thuringian Forest.
January 1, 2018
The reservoir is mainly used for drinking water and supplies over 400,000 inhabitants in central Thuringia. The storage volume is around 18 million m³. The dam has retained a natural character. As part of the construction of the dam 20 residential buildings, a sawmill and the former blacksmiths of the district Black Forest were demolished and moved the road to Oberhof. The excursion restaurant "Lower Swiss hut" had to close because of its location in the water catchment area of the dam, it was also demolished.Reference and further information: de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohra-Talsperre

Beautiful dam with a great path that leads around the dam completely and well developed. Very nice for cycling or walking.

Great views from the path along the reservoir! And if the drinking bottle is empty, there is fresh ear water at the Kneipp pedal pool at the parking lot

Beautiful dam with a really beautiful landscape. The path around the dam is partly paved. It's really great to ride a bike. On the way around the dam there are some nice places where you can take a short break and enjoy the beautiful view over the water. It's always fun to drive this scenic route, which is really beautiful.
