In 2003, this area was purchased by the province of Limburg and subsequently partly excavated. This created the current lake, which is fed by seepage water. ever delivered. This bird watching hut was installed in 2015. The area is named after Piet Blankers for his efforts in the creation of this area. The lake attracts all kinds of ducks and other water birds, as well as waders if there is sufficient mud. The seepage-fed lake is also home to various species of dragonflies
