The Rhône-Rhine Canal is a French canal that connects the Saône, a navigable tributary of the Rhône, with the Rhine, the Doubs Valley and its extension in Upper Alsace to Niffer am Rhein, another extension, the Strasbourg through the canalization connects from the Ill. It is intended to connect the seaports of Northern Europe with those of the Mediterranean by establishing a connection between Rotterdam and Marseille via Germany.
