The Duke Wilhelm Monument was erected in 1909 above Rühle and commemorates Duke Wilhelm from the House of Welf, who ruled the state of Braunschweig from 1830 to 1884 (to which Rühle and the Holzminden district belonged as the westernmost part of the state). From here you have a great view of Rühle, the Weser and Pegestorf.

Wilhelm August Ludwig Maximilian Friedrich (born April 25, 1806 in Braunschweig; † October 18, 1884 in Sibyllenort), Duke of Braunschweig and Lüneburg and Oels was Duke of Braunschweig from 1830 until his death.

Out of gratitude for the exemption of the "Fronzins", the last ruling Duke Wilhelm of Braunschweig and Lüneburg was erected this monument in honor and memory of the residents of Rühl on the vineyard between 1908 and 1909.
