Station 9 natural monument Kreuzstein - the massive rock dates from a period when the sea came back to Central Europe: sponges and microorganisms settled on the sea floor over centuries. Mighty calcareous sediments emerged from their remains. Over time, these were converted to limestone by the pressure of their own weight.
