The cool vein of the city and favorite place of many Munich: The rising in the Alps and running through the city river is an attraction - and in every season. The green areas and gravel banks along the Isar invite you to go for a walk and cycling or barbecuing. The recreational value of the Isar, which covers about 14 kilometers on its way through Munich, is enormous: the paths along the river are popular with joggers and walkers, in summer bathers enjoy the cool gravel on the many pebble banks and especially in the evenings one sits Cozy with the barbecue.

Oh, the Isar, that's really a treat for us Munich residents! Coming straight from the Alps, it winds through our beautiful city and gives us relaxation, cooling off and just a good time. It almost feels like we've packed a piece of nature into the middle of the big city.

Whether summer or winter, the Isar is always an experience. On its 14 kilometers through Munich, it offers everything for the heart: the green banks and gravel banks, where you can take a nice walk, cycle or just relax. And when you get hungry? Then grill something delicious and enjoy the sound of the water.

In summer, you see it everywhere: Munich residents and their guests making themselves comfortable on the gravel banks, a cold beer in their hand, and jumping into the fresh water. The refreshing sound of running water is something!

In addition to the main Isar, there is also the small Isar. There it flows, between the eastern bank of the Isar and the Museum Island, and adorns our city with bridges that tell stories, such as the Cornelius Bridge or the outer Maximilian Bridge. And Weir VIII at Schwind Island? It has a history that goes back to 1873 and was retold in 2009.

So if you come to Munich, take the time and stroll along the Isar. Let yourself be enchanted by the combination of nature and city. And who knows, maybe you'll meet one or two Munich residents who will be happy to give you a few insider tips.
