Here two beeches have grown together and become a tree.
The name Ovvenspief translates from the Low German "stove pipe", because this beech looks so similar.
When the trees are close to each other, here the thin trunks and rubbing against each other by the wind, the thin bark loosens. This will expose the cambium, which is responsible for the tree's growth in thickness. The cells touch and grow into a tree over time.
