On the southeastern edge of Osnabrück, at the foot of the mountain of the same name, lies the remarkable, late medieval moated castle Gut Sandfort, dating from the 14th/15th century. Its main and outer baileys are oriented north-west/south-east, and measure a maximum of 140 x 90 m. The moat is preserved in the east/southeast in the form of a pond. The remaining area was unfortunately filled in around 1860. Today, Gut Sandfort contains the manor house, rebuilt in 1760/65, the gatehouse and gate tower from 1662, and several outbuildings from the 18th century. The listed property was created from the peasant inheritance of Molenseten.
