On the afternoon of July 4, 1944, the Geierskopf fell below the height of the Spessart (549 m above sea level)
A German fighter aircraft dropped off at Rohrbrunn in the Karlsbuch forest department.Lieutenant Helmut Venske had an accident,
born on January 31, 1916 in Marienwerder / West Prussia and theSergeant Josef Fahsch,
born on September 20, 1919 in Graz / Styria
fatal.This crash occurred as a result of an operator error. In the loss report it is stated in the same way that
that the machine crashed on a training flight when the pilot tried to
to fly under the cloud cover.The aircraft, a Junkers Ju 88 G-1 with the factory number 714059, was included
completely destroyed.
The aviators belonged to the 8th season of the III. Group of the night fighter squadron 101, which at that time
was stationed in Kitzingen (250 m above sea level). The 8th Squadron of Night Fighter Wing 101 was only in
June 1944 as a training unit at the air base in Kitzingen.
At this point in time, only two Ju 88 G-1 machines were available in the 8th season.The remains were taken to their respective hometowns for burial.
