Beinn Eighe is one of Torridon’s magnificent trinity of iconic mountains, a gigantic mini range in itself, with many lofty summits and muscular ridges. Hikes to Spidean Coire nan Clach take you to the central apex of this great sprawling giant, a superb vantage to look out over the wild landscape of the North West Highlands.
Beinn Eighe is not as technical as nearby Liathach, though you may be required to use your hands occasionally. If approaching from the east, the ridge between Creag Dubh and Sgurr an Fhir Dhuibhe, known as the Black Carls, is a short and enjoyable grade one scramble.
Once you top out on the quartzite strewn summit of Spidean Coire nan Clach, an awesome view of the rest of the massif unfolds before you. Its great northern arms arc outwards, enclosing tremendous secluded corries. The arms culminate on the high summits of Ruadh-stac Mòr and Ruadh-stac Beag.
The most direct walking routes to Spidean Coire nan Clach start from the road between Kinlochewe and Torridon, both of which make excellent bases with plenty of accommodation options. Beinn Eighe is serious business in winter and should be left to those with mountaineering skills and equipment.
One of the two Munro summits on Beinn Eighe, Spidean Coire nan Clach is the more easterly of two. The Munro sits in the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve in the stunning Torridon region of the Scottish Highlands. The summit is 3,258 feet (993 m) in height and is formed of red Torridonian sandstone but grey/white quartzite is found on the upper slopes. The airy ridge between here and Ruadh-stac Mòr is a real treat.

Beinn Eighe is a superb Mountain, and a good introduction to the Torridon hills. This peak, though a little exposed on the summit has a straight forward ascent from the roadside carpark.
The summit of this Munro is not the trig point but a cairn to the east of it.
