In 1598, the Constance Jakob Atzenholz-Zollikofer von Tattenwiler built a castle called Neuhorn, which later served as the summer residence for the abbots of the Augustinian Abbey in Kreuzlingen. It burned down completely in 1633 and was restored in 1664 by Abbot Augustin I Gimmi.

Gottfried Ferdinand Amman, the later owner, rebuilt it in 1870 in the style of historicism to the castle in today's appearance.

Owned by the city of Kreuzlingen since 1958, the Seeburg was extensively renovated in 1982-1984. Until the sea was filled up in the 1960s, the Seeburg stood directly on the shores of Lake Constance. A restaurant has been integrated in Schloss Seeburg since 2011.
