Smugglers' Bay is a good place to swim, for example right after running.

A small port is said to have been here and a small restaurant stood on the shore. It is not entirely certain whether smuggled goods were actually traded here and this is how the bay got its name. What is certain, however, is that there is an extra beautiful view of the lake, the old town and the opposite shore of the lake.

Information from the Konstanz city archive:

»In a border town like Constance, it is not surprising that, especially in the 19th and 20th centuries, with the emergence of nation states, circumventing customs regulations was an ongoing issue. A hunt for smugglers in the fall of 1912 was spectacular; the case is mentioned in volume 4.2 of the great history of the city on pages 308 f. It was a Zurich sugar smuggling gang.

The smuggler's bay probably got its name at that time because goods were often smuggled from Switzerland into the German Reich there. Smuggling then flourished, especially after the border was closed at the beginning of the First World War, then again after the end of the war (especially during the inflation period) and again after the Second World War. Smuggling was a constant theme in Constance, so it is not surprising that the smugglers' bay got its name in this context.«
