Located on the west beach of the Darß peninsula, the Darßwald, which belongs to the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park, covers an area of over 5,000 hectares. It extends in the south towards Ahrenshoop and in the north to Darßer Ort with the lighthouse and the Natureum. However, there are no settlements in the area.

The Darßwald was formerly used as pasture land, which is also indicated by the unusually grown beech population. Spruce, yew, larch and Douglas fir also grow here. The natural rejuvenation of the tree population is at least hindered by a high game population of red deer and deer as well as the large growing bracken.

The forest is criss-crossed by a long network of hiking, biking, riding and carriage trails. A circular hiking trail at Darßer Ort even leads partly over wooden planks through a swampy area in which there are two viewing platforms that offer a wide view of the charming landscape. (Source: mvp.de)
