Abbadia di Uselle Infra Montes

The correct name is Abbadia di Uselle infra montes: a splendid church with a nave dating back to the XII century, a former Benedictine monastery.
For centuries, the locals have celebrated his Madonna, and still today the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception revives the rite, on December 8th; at the end of the mass everyone is given a blessed dough.
On this occasion the rite of the Madonna del Parto also took place: a statue of the Virgin with the Child in her arms carved on a single wooden block dating back to around 1300. Today the statue is preserved and visible at the Duomo Museum in Città di Castello.
The Abbey fulfilled the function of hospitalization for pilgrims who traveled to Rome from the Upper Adriatic, being located between the Benedictine Abbey of Lamoli and Valtiberina, after the pass of Bocca Trabaria.
