The Via Giulia was an important Roman communication route, today it is part of the "Way of Assisi" and is beaten by many pilgrims.
Corposano is a very nice little village. "Healthy" because it is the intact part of the village after a serious landslide in the past. Chestnuts harvested in these woods are highly appreciated.
Cospaia was for several centuries a tiny independent republic, located between the State of the Church and the Republic of Florence (later the Grand Duchy of Tuscany). It obtained independence by chance in 1441, when Pope Eugene IV, in struggle with the Council of Basel, ceded the territory of Sansepolcro to the Republic of Florence. By mistake, in the transcription of the border, a small strip of land was not included in the treaty that delimited the borders, and the relative inhabitants readily declared independence.
Here, for the first time in Italy, the cultivation of tobacco began. Still, some varieties of tobacco are defined with the name of cospaia.
